Painkillers in Dental Treatment

Painkillers are commonly prescribed after dental procedures such as tooth extractions, root canal treatments, implant surgery, and wisdom tooth removal to reduce pain and inflammation.

Common Painkillers Used in Dentistry

  • Ibuprofen

Reduces pain and swelling.
Often the first choice for dental pain.

  • Paracetamol

Effective for mild to moderate pain.
Can be used when NSAIDs are not suitable

  • Diclofenac

Used for moderate to severe dental pain and inflammation.

Important Points

  • Painkillers relieve symptoms but do not treat the cause of dental pain.
  • Persistent toothache may indicate infection, decay, or another condition requiring dental treatment.
  • Patients with stomach ulcers, kidney disease, liver disease, pregnancy, or certain medical conditions may need alternative medications.
